Keep your doors locked!
Don’t give out personal information online!
Walk in groups!
Do these statements sound familiar? Whether you have been the one hearing these messages or speaking them, safety is an important issue to those of us on campus.
Providing students with prevention strategies, including the reduction of risky behavior, has the potential of reducing the incidence of violence and other crimes. Last year the University of Arizona’s Parents & Family Association granted monies to the Dean of Students Office to implement a campus-wide marketing campaign to remind and inform students of ways to stay safe and to increase awareness of the many institutional resources available to them. Topics included in the campaign are:
- How alcohol use impacts student’s ability to practice safe behaviors
- Online safety and issues of privacy and stalking
- What to do when friends exhibits signs of being distressed or even suicidal
- Safe spring breaks
- How to be a responsible neighbor while living in the Tucson community
- On-campus safety
“Wildcats have each other’s backs!” and “safebook” - posters currently placed around campus - provide safety messages relevant to UA students. Take time to locate one or both of these posters.
Also check out Campus Health’s new website for students called
friend2friend
This site provides a place for students to locate information and advice that can be used to help a friend who might be experiencing problems.
And Remember - Keep your doors locked! Don’t give out personal information online! AND Walk in groups!
