Red Tag Pilot Program

The Dean of Students office is partnering with the Tucson Police Department (TPD) and initiated a pilot program that began in January 2007 to educate UA students about responsible behavior within the Tucson community. The focus of this program is to respond to issues related to off-campus parties where there is a clear nexus to the university community. In keeping with the jurisdiction of the Student Code of Conduct, the program is designed to decrease extreme misbehavior by university students in the Tucson community.

In order to participate in the program, the host(s) of the party must receive a red tag citation from the TPD related to service of alcohol to underage persons, sale or distribution of drugs, or violence. The TPD has agreed to forward the red tag reports to the Dean of Students office. The reports will be reviewed by the

Dean of Students office to confirm that:

  • the host(s) of the party is a UA student
  • other UA students attended the party, and;
  • there is a clear nexus to The University of Arizona

Students will either receive a letter of warning or participate in an educational process consistent with established Student Code of Conduct proceedings. Students will have an opportunity to discuss the incident and participate in a fact finding investigation which could result in educational sanctions.
