Video Clips
Between the spring of 2002 and 2003, the University of Arizona Dean of Students Office surveyed faculty and students in Tier I and Tier II classes to determine to what extent disruptive behavior was experienced in UA classrooms. Sixty faculty and over 700 students responded, with the majority of both students and faculty indicating that they had experienced disruptive behavior at some level.

In an effort to share this information with students, the UA Dean of Students Office created a video which would appeal to them in a humorous way and establish guidelines that lead to successful, productive learning experiences. Both national and local media outlets ran extensive stories on the video and the topic of disruptive behavior, and we are enjoying the discourse this has provoked.

Two clips from the video are available for your viewing. These scenes represent just a small portion of the behaviors which student panelists found objectionable. Other offenders include: The Pontificator, Ms. Inappropriate, and The Time Bandit.

– 86% of faculty cited chatting/whispering and tardiness as disruptive behaviors most frequently experienced throughout the academic year.
