Campus
Climate
The Dean of Students Office continually
evaluates the student experience throughout the
school year on a number of levels, but in 1996
we commissioned the first comprehensive assessment
of the campus climate as a more formal way to
help us make decisions about improving the campus
environment. This survey has been conducted every
five years since, and evaluates the degree of
student satisfaction and performance measures
with respect to the faculty, computing resources,
on-campus activities and the social climate at
the University.
The questions asked of the students
have changed over the years as new issues emerge – online communities, the graduate student
experience, parents’ involvement and method
of communication with their sons and daughters
at the UA – were all topics added to the
2006 survey. Students report having a positive
experience at the UA: the most popular descriptions
of the campus climate are that it is friendly/social,
enjoyable, and diverse.
