Message from the Dean
Welcome to our first e-newsletter! Delivered directly to your inbox monthly during the fall and spring semesters, this e-newsletter is designed to help faculty and staff become aware of resources to support students, learn about how the Dean of Students Office can support you, and to share research about UA students. I hope that you find it useful in your work with students. In particular, I hope that you are able to utilize the multi-media presentation about each month’s hot topic to enhance your knowledge about this critical student issue. This month’s multi-media presentation is on distressed students.
The beginning of this academic year was particularly trying and traumatic for our campus community. I’d like to thank everyone who responded to these events with sensitivity, compassion, and tremendous support for one another, and especially for our UA students. Faculty members were very understanding to those students affected by the tragedies – all of which confirms what an exceptionally caring community we have here at the UA.
At the Dean of Students Office we’re excited to announce a newly re-designed web site we hope will be easier for users to navigate as they learn more about our office. Please take a moment to review it at http://dos.web.arizona.edu and let us know what you think. Make sure you visit the section of the website designed just for faculty and staff – click on the link on the right hand column. Look for a continually growing library of multi-media presentations available on a variety of topics, so you can access our office resources at your convenience.
I welcome your ideas on how this newsletter or our office can better support you. If you would like to see a particular student issue addressed, we will incorporate that idea into a future issue. Please feel free to send ideas directly to me at cdt@email.arizona.edu. As a preview, we will be focusing next month’s issue on Academic Integrity issues.
Dr. Carol Thompson
Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs
& Dean of Students
