UA Preparedness to Crises
There is no question that the events at Virginia Tech are both tragic and sad. Our thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives and with the entire Virginia Tech community as they grieve.
Many questions have been raised in recent days about the preparedness of universities to respond to similar crises. The University of Arizona has a comprehensive plan to and a team of people who respond to a wide variety of campus emergencies – both large and small. Our emergency plan is designed to first maintain the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Second, this plan seeks to stabilize the incident to prevent any further harm. Finally, the plan works to return the UA campus to normal educational operations as soon as possible. This plan is administered by our Campus Emergency Response Team (CERT). CERT is a group of faculty, staff, and administrators who meet frequently to review and update UA emergency plans, conduct drills, and look for ways to continuously improve our emergency response. You can read more about the breadth and depth of UA emergency response plans online at: http://www.arizona.edu/home/emergency.php
